Commission Elects 2021 Executive Committee Officers

At the 2021 annual Commission meeting, held virtually on September 23, 2021, the Interstate Commission for EMS Personnel Practice re-elected Donnie Woodyard, Jr as the Vice-Chair and Joe House as the Secretary. Gary Brown, the Commissioner from Virginia, was elected to the Executive Committee as the Member-at-Large, filling a mid-term vacancy.

"Every Commissioner elected to the Executive Committee are respected national leaders with decades of experience in EMS leadership," said Joseph Schmider, Chair of the Executive Committee.  "They have been involved with the EMS Compact from its concept through activation and their experience will be key as we focus on implementation of the EMS Compact in each of the 21 Member States."

The EMS Compact facilitates the day-to-day movement of EMS personnel across state boundaries in the performance of their duties. EMS personnel, including EMTs and Paramedics, licensed in a compact member state are granted a Privilege to Practice in the other compact member states. The EMS Compact is a legal agreement between states, enacted by state legislation in over 20 states.  The EMS Compact is governed by an Interstate Commission to oversee the operations of the Compact nationally, enforce its provisions on the member states, and resolve any disputes that may arise between the states. The Commission is comprised of one voting representative (Commissioner) for each member state. The Commission is a body politic and an instrumentality of the Compact states that is engaged in public policy making on behalf of the member states.
